“Energy Storage System for exhausted Subsea Oil and Gas Reservoirs” International Application No. PCT/AU2019/050839
This technology involves the adaptation of an existing depleted off-shore gas or oil reservoir to store energy using air and sea water with no moving parts. It allows for entire energy systems to transition towards becoming 100% Renewable. A bulk energy storage system that over time will eliminate the need or use of coal fired base load generation.
Current energy storage technology is limited by finite capacity. Battery technology is expensive. Increasing penetrations of intermittent renewables, such as wind and solar power, on the world's power grids will require the deployment of growing amounts of energy storage to balance out the momentary, daily, and seasonal power fluctuations of these resources.
We have developed an energy storage technology that compares favourably with current energy storage technology (that is, current battery technology and pumped hydro);
